Yellow bird, up high in banana tree, Yellow bird, you sit all alone like me. Did your lady friend leave the nest again? That is very sad, makes me feel so bad. You can fly away, in the sky away. You're more lucky than I. Yellow bird, up high in banana tree, Yellow bird, you sit all alone like me. Did your lady friend leave the nest again? That is very sad, makes me feel so bad. You can fly away, in the sky away. You're more lucky than I. Yellow bird, up high in banana tree, Yellow bird, you sit all alone like me. Let her fly away, on the sky away, Picker coming soon, pick from night to noon, Black and yellow you, like banana too, He might pick you someday. Yellow bird! |

Yellow Bird
The banana
is not a tree but a high herb that can attain up to 15 metres of height.
It is a perennial plant that replaces itself. Bananas do not grow from
a seed but from a bulb or rhizome. The time between planting a banana
plant and the harvest of the banana bunch goes from 9 to 12 months.
The flower appears in the sixth or seventh month. Bananas are available
all year long. Bananas are harvested green and hard, before they mature.
Two types of workers are required to harvest bananas: a "cutter"
and a "backer". The cutter cuts down the plant with his machete
while the backer waits for the cut stem to settle on a thick cushion
on his shoulder. The cutter then chops the stem to enable the daughter
plant to take over as the main stalk.
