Reuzenlied

Giants (reuzen)

Al die zegt, de reus die kom
Everyone says the giant is coming
De reus die kom,
The giant is coming,
Ze liegen erom!
They must be lying!

Keere weerom, Reuske, Reuske;
Turn back, Giant, Giant;
Keere weerom, Reuzegom.
Turn back, Giant.

Sa, moeder zet de pot op ’t vier,
Oh, Mother set the pot on the fire,
De pot op ’t vier,
The pot on the fire,
De reus is hier!
The giant is here!
Giants (reuzen)

Keere weerom, Reuske, Reuske;
Turn back, Giant, Giant;
Keere weerom, Reuzegom.
Turn back, Giant.

Sa, moeder, snijdt een boterham,
Oh, Mother, cut some bread and butter,
Een boterham,
Some bread and butter,
De reus is gram!
The giant is angry!

Keere weerom, Reuske, Reuske;
Turn back, Giant, Giant;
Keere weerom, Reuzegom.
Turn back, Giant.
Giants (reuzen)

Sa, moeder, tap
Oh, Mother, tap
Van 't beste bier, van 't beste bier,
From the best beer, from the best beer,
De reus is hier.
The giant is here.

Keere weerom, Reuske, Reuske;
Turn back, Giant, Giant;
Keere weerom, Reuzegom.
Turn back, Giant.

Sa, moeder, stop nu maar het vat,
Oh, Mother, plug the cask now,
Nu maar het vat,
Plug it now,
De reus is zat!
The giant is satisfied.

Keere weerom, Reuske, Reuske;
Turn back, Giant, Giant;
Keere weerom, Reuzegom.
Turn back, Giant.

Midi: Reuzenlied

The town giant!
French Flanders and Belgium are regions where the giants are held in special regard. Each of the old cities of Flanders has its giant. This tradition dates back to the early 16th century, coming from Spain and Portugal. Giants are only seen in processions on special occasions. Attendants accompany the giant as he or she dances through the streets.
